BPA-free bottle for Baby and Me

Honestly, I only knew and concerned on BPA-free products during my last pregnancy. I am totally concern on what should I give and should not to my precious one. As far as I am concern, most of mothers loved to own Avent's brand...from baby bottle, breast pump and up to sterilizer! Unfortunately, Avent product don't catch my eye lol!! I most prefer other brands such as MAM, Medela, MUNCKIN, NUK and Tommee Tippee. These products are BPA-free too!!! My main objective here is to clarify that we all get stuck to BPA products not only babies! This is some fact we should know about BPA :

  1. Do you know what is BPA?? Biophenol-A or commonly abbreviated as BPABPA is an organic compound with two phenol functional groups. Usually being used to make polycarbonate plastic and epoxy resins and others application and so-called plastic thing. So, here clearly that BPA is not restricted to baby bottle only as been bombarded by us nowadays!! BPA is also commonly found in drinking bottles and sipper cups as well as dentistry composites and sealants and in the lining of aluminum food and beverage cans.
  2. Why we must choose BPA-free?? Heat causes BPA leaches from plastic to liquid in the bottles! The study in today's Toxicology Letters provides evidence that heat — not frequent use — may pose the greatest problem. Previous studies have shown that repeated wear and tear — such as running baby bottles through the dishwasher — makes BPA leach out of plastic, says the study's main author, Scott Belcher of the University of Cincinnati.
  3. What dangerous can BPA causes?? It can causes neural and behavioral problems among children refer to baby bottles, early puberty, breast cancer and prostate cancer.  Concern over bisphenol A, or BPA! has grown since August 2008, when a government and world expressed "some concern" that the ingredient — used in some plastic bottles, dental sealants and linings of metal cans!

  5. What else about BPA?? BPA isn't used in all bottles. It's found in polycarbonate plastic with a number 7 recycling code, a category that includes several types of plastics. The safer BPA-free choices for food containers and beverages are #2 HDPE (High Density Polyethylene) and #5 PP (PolyPropylene.)!

  • Though scientists haven't yet conducted definitive studies in people, animal tests show that BPA affects reproduction and brain development, Belcher says. Government tests have found BPA in 95% of people studied. Steve Hentges of the American Chemistry Council says Belcher's study adds little new information, although it does dispel the "myth" that old polycarbonate bottles break down and become unsafe. He notes that many other studies have shown that BPA can migrate into food. Significantly, however, government safety agencies in Europe and Japan also have concluded that the tiny amounts of BPA that make it into food aren't a risk."     Source: www.usatoday.com.

When buying bottles, containers or beverages look for BPA-free on the label. In my opinion, we should try to avoid buying plastics as much as possible and stick with glass or stainless  steel containers. Choose BPA-Free for great LIFE!
